Padma outbid everyone for the most coveted art work of the evening: an Eric Fischl watercolor of two bathers on the beach that sold for $75,000, Monday evening at the New York Academy of Art’s 19th annual Take Home a Nude benefit auction.
Padma’s ex, Acclaimed author Salman Rushdie, will be writing a memoir of his fascinating life. Random House snapped up the rights for the book that won’t be released until 2012. The main focus will be about Rushdie having to go into hiding after the Ayatollah Khomeini of Iran issued a ‘death edict’ against Rushdie after he wrote The Satanic Verses, which was apparently very insulting to Islam. Rushie was in hiding from 1989 to 1998, but something very fortunate happened to Rushie the next year in 1999, he met and later married his fourth wife Padma Lakshmi.
