One-third of Palo Alto school enrollment is Asian American
We need more parents and school administrators to take the bull by the horns and address the Asian stereotypes at the grade school level. Our population is growing..power in numbers. Palo Alto proves to be one of the smartest cities around.
200 parents and students — mostly, but not exclusively, Asian — gathered to reflect on “Growing Up Asian in Palo Alto.” The event was sponsored by the Palo Alto Council of PTAs and moderated by Barbara Sih Klausner, who said she was participating as an individual, not in her official role as school board president.
About one-third of Palo Alto’s 11,680 public school students are Asian American, and about one in five is ethnic Chinese
Students from Palo Alto and Gunn high schools described what it’s like to deal with — and sometimes overcome — stereotypes that peers and others hold, such as that Asians gravitate toward math and science.
