Kashyap’s Film to Premiere at Venice Film Festival

Indian director, Anurag Kashyap will debut his film The Girl with the Yellow Boots at this year’s Venice Film Festival.

The Festival, which runs from September 1-11 this year, will screen 79 full-length world premieres including Kashyap’s film. The film will show in the Out-of-Competition section – a showcase of films from established directors who have previously participated in the Festival.

The Girl in Yellow Boots stars Kashyap’s girlfriend, actress Kalki Koechlin. Kashyap and Koechlin wrote the screenplay together. The movie follows the life of Ruth (Koechlin) who searches for her father she’s seen briefly but can’t forget. She moves to Mumbai where she works illegally in a massage parlor. Using the underbelly of the city as the backdrop, Kashyap shows the menacing side of Mumbai as Ruth gets tangled up in it and its labyrinth of darkness.

The film will have its North American debut at the upcoming Toronto Film Festival (TIFF).
