Chinese-American Composer Has World Premiere in NY

The American Composer Orchestra kicked off its 2010-2011 season at Carnegie Hall with a program entitled “Mystics & Magic”.

In the season opener, Chinese-American composer, Wang Jie, had the world premiere of her new piece “From the Other Sky” which drew on her Chinese heritage. This multi-media concert opera is based on her own invented myth of how the Chinese zodiac animals lost its 13th member – the musical lark. It features three opera singers and a full orchestral score.

Wang Jie is one of the most exciting new composers. Her innovative work embraces both her Chinese and American heritage, giving her work a unique sound. Her song cycle, I DIED FOR BEAUTY opened the Beijing Modern Music Festival and her piano trio, SHADOW, was featured by the New Julliard Ensemble during the Museum of Modern Art Summergardens series.
