Taiwanese star Jay Chou hits US in ‘The Green Hornet’

Jay Chou hails from Taiwan, but he first gained popularity as a pop music star. He won the World Music Award for Best-Selling Artist in China on four separate occasions. Chou sings, writes his own songs, produces his recordings, and plays piano, guitar, violin, drums, and several other instruments.

Chou’s first leading role in a movie was in 2005’s “Initial D,” a Hong Kong film based on a Japanese manga series. He costarred with Chow Yun-Fat and Gong Li in the epic “Curse of the Golden Flower,” which was his first exposure to American movie audiences. After directing some of his own music videos, he directed a feature film, “Secret,” in 2007.

Despite all of his popularity in Asia, it was still a surprise to most observers when Chou won the role of Kato in “The Green Hornet.” “The Green Hornet” also starring Cameron Diaz and Oscar-winner Christoph Waltz, opens everywhere on January 14, 2011.

Bruce Lee starred as Kato in the original television series “The Green Hornet” in 1966-67.
