San Francisco’s first Asian-American mayor says he won’t run for election later
San Francisco’s first Asian-American mayor says he won’t run for election later this year.
Interim Mayor Edwin Lee, who was selected by the Board of Supervisors in January to fill the remainder of Gavin Newsom’s term, says he wants to return to his job as city administrator.
Newsom became California’s lieutenant governor in January.
At the time of his appointment, Lee said he would not run for mayor.
He tells the Los Angeles Times in a story published today that he hasn’t changed his mind.
The filing deadline for the mayor’s race is in mid-August. More than 30 candidates have already declared.
