Only One Asian Model at the Daniel Vosovic Show
Season 2 Project Runway runner-up, Daniel Vosovic, showed his third collection at the Metropolitan Pavilion to an intimate crowd.
Last season, Vosovic cast an all-Asian show and had spoken out about the difficulties in finding Asian models to walk his show. This season, however, the designer used only one Asian model. The reason for the lone Asian model is unclear.
This season, Vosovic harked back to the American pioneers of the 19th century, showing a feminine but somewhat utilitarian collection. Using a palette of ivory, navy and shades of green, his third collection was well-edited and well thought out. It had a fluidity to it with the wide-leg trousers, slouchy skirts and tactility of his fabrics. His use of materials and textures, including leathers, shearlings and wools were innovative yet approachable.
Vosovic has a strong point of view as a designer and perhaps what is always relevant in his work is the play on the unexpected. Long gowns with subtly open backs, leather bonnets worn in place of millinery, and cashmere and latex collars were all cleverly incorporated. The brilliance of the collection lies in the how seamless these unanticipated elements are incorporated. Vosovic’s collections always lends itself to a sophistication for the independent woman who’s not afraid to add a bit of the unexpected to the everyday.
