K-pop legend Seo Tai Ji and ex-wife Lee Ji Ah break silence on divorce dispute
Korean music legend Seo Tai Ji, considered by many as the father of modern K-Pop, broke his silence over his secret marriage and recent legal dispute with ex-wife actress Lee Ji Ah, in a press statement on Saturday, reported Korean media. “We began our life as a married couple on Oct 12, 1997 but we later realized our personalities and plans were different,” said Seo. “We separated in June 2000 and lived our own lives.”
Seo also said in his statement that they only officially divorced on August 9, 2006 and that he had previously compensated her for the emotional distress she suffered during their divorce years ago.Seo’s statement comes an hour before Lee announced that she had withdrawn her lawsuit against her ex-husband.
Lee had previously asked for a 5 billion won (S$5.7 million) property settlement and an additional 500 million won (S$572,876) in alimony payments in her suit, which brought her secret marriage to light. Not even Lee and Seo’s family members, much less anyone in the Korean entertainment industry, knew they were married and news of their divorce dispute shocked the public in Korea.
