An alleged member of an Asian-American street gang in Rhode Island has been sentenced to six years in federal prison for trafficking in ecstasy, heroin and cocaine.

Federal prosecutors said Thursday that U.S. District Court Chief Judge Mary Lisi imposed the sentence on 21-year-old Johnny Souphida (SOU’-feh-dah) of Providence.

Souphida pleaded guilty in September to drug trafficking and firearm charges. Authorities say Souphida is a member of the Laos Pride street gang in Providence.

Authorities say Souphida was arrested in May following an investigation by Providence police that included “numerous” undercover drug purchases.

A search of his residence yielded 22 grams of heroin, 91 grams of cocaine and more than 2,400 ecstasy pills. Authorities also found two firearms, one of which had previously been reported stolen.
