Well it’s about time! Who would have done this tasteless, culturally insensitive ad in the first place?

Michigan senatorial candidate Pete Hoekstra, a Republican, aired the original ad during Sunday’s Super Bowl game. The ad, which featured an Asian woman biking through rice paddies and speaking broken English, criticized Hoekstra’s rival, Debbie Stabenow, for spending too much government money.

“Thank you, Michigan Sen. Debbie Spenditnow,” the woman said. “Debbie spends so much American money. You borrow more and more from us. Your economy get very weak. Ours get very good. We take your jobs. Thank you, Debbie Spenditnow.”

The website www.debbiespenditnow.com used Asian cultural symbols to attack Stabenow’s spending policies and accuses Stabenow of “pouring American dollars into the Chinese economy.”

The website’s URL now redirects to www.petespenditnot.com. Hoekstra’s new campaign ad mostly features text about spending.

Guess he wasn’t looking for the Asian American vote!
