American golfing star Michelle Wie said today she was sorry for her “unacceptable behavior” during the final round of the $1.4-million HSBC Women’s Champions tournament in Singapore.

The 22-year-old, who has struggled with her form throughout the event, lost her cool at the 17th hole after her drive off the tee went wild, slamming her club in frustration.

“I absolutely apologise for that,” she said after finishing her round.

“It’s unacceptable behavior. Sometimes it’s just really frustrating, and I was at that point where everything kind of boiled up.”

Wie was 22-over 310 for the tournament, which her compatriot Angela Stanford won after a dramatic four-way playoff for the title.
