{"id":11597,"date":"2011-12-16T01:12:45","date_gmt":"2011-12-16T01:12:45","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2025-10-15T00:08:37","modified_gmt":"2025-10-15T00:08:37","slug":"samrat-added-to-elle-magazine-india-hot-100-list","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asiancemagazine.com\/?p=11597","title":{"rendered":"Samrat Added to Elle Magazine India Hot 100 List"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Samrat Chakrabarti, dubbed the Independent Film King of New York by AVS TV, lived above and beyond his reputation in 2011.<\/strong> Elle Magazine India added the actor, singer, musician, producer and playwright to their coveted <strong>Hot 100 list in the December 2011 issue stating, &#8220;Frieda Pinto, Poorna Jagannathan, Samrat Chakrabarti and Ajay Naidu, all actors, continue to impress with plum projects.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>From guest starring roles in major network TV series, leads in powerful feature films to representing the youth of India at the United Nations, <strong>Samrat Chakrabarti<\/strong> has truly rocketed to the next level of his career. <strong>\u201cSamrat is making strides in getting South Asian actors noticed in mainstream America.<\/strong>  He\u2019s a gifted actor and musician who gives his heart and soul to every project.  Truly the pride of our community\u201d, commented Raju Sethi (Founder \u2013 AVS) on Samrat\u2019s remarkable 2011. <\/p>\n<p><strong>What follows is a summary of the year in Samrat Chakrabarti:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>January<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Shot a guest starring role in the Holi episode of NBC\u2019s hit series \u201cOutsourced\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Shot a supporting role in Michael Walker\u2019s \u201cPrice Check\u201d with Parker Posey which will be premiering at Sundance 2012<\/li>\n<li>Claire McCarthy\u2019s  \u201cThe Waiting City\u201d (in which Samrat costars with Hollywood star Radha Mitchell &#038; Joel Edgerton) released and consequently nominated for 8 categories at The 19th Film Critics Circle of Australia Awards (the Aussie Oscars) including Best Picture<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>February<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Samrat starred in Independent films including Shiva Bajpai&#8217;s \u201cRaju\u201d, Richard Atkinson&#8217;s \u201cDog\u2019s Lie\u201d, Italo Spinelli&#8217;s  \u201cGangor\u201d, Salim Khassa&#8217;s \u201cDesperate Endeavors\u201d, and Ajay Naidu&#8217;s \u201cAshes\u201d which screened at a variety of different festivals winning several awards including Best film for Richard Atkinson&#8217;s &#8220;Dog&#8217;s Lie&#8221; at the ITN Distribution Film and New Media Festival NY 2011 and the highly prestigious international Lino Brocka Award for Italo Spinelli&#8217;s film &#8220;Gangor&#8221;; All these film will be released sometime over the summer of 2012<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><iframe width=\"500\" height=\"360\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VwPHeR52Co8\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\n<strong>March<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Soham Mehta\u2019s Fatakra screened at SXSW, a film for which Samrat starred in and scored the soundtrack; The film screened at SXSW and won a student Academy Award later in the year<\/li>\n<li>Shot the role of \u201cWee Willie Winkie\u201d in the ensemble cast of Deepa Mehta\u2019s \u201cMidnight\u2019s Children\u201d based on Salman Rushdie\u2019s book by the same name; Samrat costarred with Seema Biswas, Satya Bhabha, Shahana Goswami, Anupam Kher, Shabana Azmi, Rajat Kapoor, Soha Ali Khan, Rahul Bose, Sarita Choudhury, Siddharth, Shriya, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Darsheel Safary &#038; many more; \u201cMidnight\u2019s Children\u201d is expected to release fall 2012<\/li>\n<li>Released several music videos and original music including the single \u201cSo Far, Where Do I Go From Here\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>June<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Samrat co-wrote,  composed and directed a rock opera \u201cBakwas Bumbug\u201d which played for repeated sold out audiences Off Broadway<\/li>\n<li>Samrat was invited to the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland to attend an international conference representing the youth civil society from India;  he delivered a musical \/ spoken word presentation to a captivated audience singing verses from a Bengali folk song \u201cLal Paharir Deshe Ja\u201d mixed with a spoken word oration that discussed the social and economic issues plaguing the youth in India today while also providing remedies to fix these problems<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>July<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Shot the lead role and scored the soundtrack for Dinesh Sachdev&#8217;s \u201cCaptured\u201d and shot one of the lead roles for Ravi Kapoor\u2019s film \u201cThe 5\u201d, both releasing in 2012<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>August<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Guest Starred on CBS\u2019 \u201cA Gifted Man\u201d with Patrick Wilson<\/li>\n<li>Shot a lead role side by side withVictor Banerjee in Amit Kumar\u2019s political drama \u201cBlemished Light\u201d, which is due out in the winter of 2012<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>September<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Collaborated again with the team of \u201cRaju\u201d (Producer Samina Abari &#038; Director Shiva Bajpai), on their yet to be titled film about Wall Street<\/li>\n<li>Walked the Red Carpet for the Canadian premiere of Richard Atkinson\u2019s award winning film \u201cDog\u2019s Lie\u201d, which is due out summer 2012<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>October<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Shot a lead role for Shome Banerjee\u2019s film \u201cHotel New York\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Shot a supporting role for the legendary Kamal Hasaan&#8217;s  film \u201cVishwaroopam\u201d which is due to release in April 2012<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>December<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Included in the Elle Magzine India\u2019s Hot 100 List alongside Freida Pinto, Ajay Naidu and others.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Samrat is currently narrating 2 books for publishing giant Penguin Books.  He is also finishing up shooting the US portion of Kamal Hasaan\u2019s film.
