Science can be beautiful. That’s the message behind Princeton University’s “Art of Science” competition, in which the school’s students, faculty, research staff and alumni submit images made during scientific research that are also visually striking.<\/strong> <\/p>\n

Above is the photo Peeking inside a generator: The colorful coils on the campus generator above were visible for a few days during its first 10-year preventive maintenance shutdown. The generator can produce enough electricity to power about 60% of the peak load of buildings connected to the campus grid<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This year’s competition, with the theme of “Intelligent Design,” drew 168 submissions, depicting subjects ranging from neurons to nanostructures to magnetic fields. A panel chose 56 works for the final exhibition, on display at the university through November 2012.<\/strong> <\/p>\n
