Korean American film maker, Andrew Ahn<\/strong>, debuted his semi-autobiographical film Dol<\/strong>, last night at the Sundance Film Festival<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

Ahn made this film as a way of coming out to his family. He casted his real-life relatives in hopes that the film would help him to come out. However, things didn’t go as planned as they were still in denial when the credits were rolling. <\/p>\n

Homosexuality is a complex issue in the Korean community. While there are positive images and press surrounding LGBT issues, there is still a backlash from the strong Christian community.<\/p>\n

“I was scared. I packed a bag, just in case,” he said about his parents’ reaction in a recent interview<\/a>. <\/p>\n

“They think that it’s a phase. My father said something that I think really sums it all up. He said: ‘We’re not going to force you to change, but we want you to be open minded.'”<\/p>\n
