In the wake of Kim Jong-Il\u2019s death, it seems that those found using cell phones or attempting to cross the border during the mandatory 100-day mourning period will be \u201cpunished accordingly.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

After the death of Jong-Il, thousands of people have attempted to flee in the wake of dwindling food reserves and abject poverty.<\/p>\n

Despite approximately 1 million residents owning cell phones, the flow of information in and out of the secretive country has been stifled.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s up to Kim Jong-un, to determine whether or not cell phones will be accessible after the 100-day mourning period ends.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In November, Reuters reported that 1 million people in North Korea would have cell phones by the end of 2011 and this is “barely four years after people were thrown into prison camps, or possibly even executed, for owning one,” the news source wrote. But, still, 1 million people is just 5 percent of the country’s total population. <\/p>\n
