{"id":12541,"date":"2012-03-09T03:03:50","date_gmt":"2012-03-09T03:03:50","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2012-03-09T03:03:50","modified_gmt":"2012-03-09T03:03:50","slug":"Pacquiao-could-face-jail-time-if-charged-in-tax-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asiancemagazine.com\/?p=12541","title":{"rendered":"Pacquiao could face jail time if charged in tax case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Philippine tax officials have filed a criminal complaint against boxing champion and lawmaker Manny Pacquiao for failure to submit documents to investigators looking into his tax returns.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors will now decide if there is enough evidence to bring the case to court, where Pacquiao could face up to two years in jail if convicted.<\/p>\n<p>Bureau of Internal Revenue regional director Rozil Lozares says a complaint was filed March 1 after Pacquiao failed to submit the documents despite three notices and a subpoena.<\/p>\n<p><strong>He said Thursday that Pacquiao&#8217;s 2010 tax return contained &#8220;discrepancies&#8221; <\/strong>considering his many businesses and endorsements.<\/p>\n<p>Pacquiao was ranked by Forbes magazine last year as the world&#8217;s 24th richest athlete.<\/p>\n<p>Calls to Pacquiao&#8217;s office went unanswered.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hope Manny&#8217;s business people are taking car of him and that he doesn&#8217;t end up like Mike Tyson.
