Former District of Columbia mayor Marion Barry referred to \u201cdirty\u201d Asian-owned businesses after winning the city\u2019s Council Ward 8 primary, demanding that \u201cthey ought to go,\u201d according to a report.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWe got to do something about these Asians coming in and opening up businesses and dirty shops,\u201d Barry said on Tuesday night, according to video posted by WRC-TV\/NBC4. \u201cThey ought to go. I\u2019m going to say that right now. But we need African-American businesspeople to be able to take their places, too.\u201d

The comments go counter to Barry\u2019s claim on his D.C. Councilmembers biography, that he stands for \u201calways advocating for economic inclusion – on behalf of African Americans, women, Hispanics, Asians and Pacific Islanders.\u201d<\/p>\n
