Chinese singer, Ruhan Jia<\/a>, made her debut performance at the Ran Tea House in Brooklyn, New York on Friday, June 22, 2012.<\/strong> Jia studied piano at a young age. She then gravitated to vocal and musical studies at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music.<\/p>\n

Although she is classically trained, she has crossed music boundaries by working with the likes of Damon Albarn for his rock-opera, Monkey:Journey To The West<\/strong>. The tune of \u201cDao Zai Fan Ye\u201d was featured on Christopher Tin\u2019s 2009 Grammy Award Winning classical-crossover album, Calling All Dawns<\/strong>.<\/strong> Despite her past accolades, Ruhan Jia moved on with her debut album, Time to Grow<\/strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ruhan Jia treated the audience by performing six songs.<\/strong> Don\u2019t let her looks fool you. She may look like a delicate flower, but her voice packs a mean punch. Her operatic vocal training not only allowed her to hit the high notes, but her voice conveyed passion and rawness unlike anything you had every heard. Citing the influences of opera singers such as Maria Callas and Kathleen battle, Ruhan Jia is right at home with using her voice to tell her personal tale.<\/strong> She performed songs ranging from traditional Chinese tunes to western pop.<\/p>\n
