{"id":13632,"date":"2012-07-19T01:07:44","date_gmt":"2012-07-19T01:07:44","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2012-07-19T01:07:44","modified_gmt":"2012-07-19T01:07:44","slug":"China-s-Tencent-Sees-Market-Cap-Hit-66-Billion-Passes-Facebook","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asiancemagazine.com\/?p=13632","title":{"rendered":"China\u2019s Tencent Sees Market Cap Hit $66 Billion, Passes Facebook"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>China\u2019s social media giant has surpassed America\u2019s leader in terms of the total value of their shares. <\/strong>Yes, Tencent\u2019s market cap is greater than Facebook\u2019s right now, with Tencent\u2019s market capitalization currently at HK$419.84 billion \u2013 that\u2019s US$66.6 billion \u2013 compared to Facebook\u2019s $62.24 billion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tencent listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in June 2004 priced at HK$3.70 per share.<\/strong> It\u2019s trading right now at HK$228. It\u2019s a significant moment for Tencent, which runs a number of social services in the country that are the biggest in their field: the biggest in social gaming; the biggest in group messaging apps with WeChat; the biggest in instant messaging with QQ, the biggest in online profiles with QZone; and the biggest in microblogging with Tencent Weibo.<\/p>\n<p>If you look at the country\u2019s top social services \u2013 <strong>in this excerpt from an infographic on China\u2019s rising social media (above) \u2013 you\u2019ll see that three of them are Tencent\u2019s.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>But Tencent is not invincible. It has struggled in a number of crucial areas as well. One of the biggest failures has been in e-commerce where its own efforts \u2013 with Paipai for C2C selling, and QQ Buy for B2C and online storefronts \u2013 have come to little, and been out-gunned by Alibaba\u2019s Taobao and Tmall sites. In mobile, too, it hasn\u2019t co-ordinated quite the same coherent mobile strategy of some of its rivals, like Baidu and Alibaba, which have gone so far as to create their own mobile platforms and smartphones.<\/p>\n<p>Tencent is a force to be reckoned with both at home and abroad, and its rise in value and continued diversification should serve as a lesson to Facebook. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.techinasia.com\/tencent-market-cap-passes-facebook\/\">Source techinasian.com<\/a><br \/>\n<!--break--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>China\u2019s social media giant has surpassed America\u2019s leader in terms of the total value of their shares.
