{"id":13678,"date":"2012-07-23T04:07:21","date_gmt":"2012-07-23T04:07:21","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2025-10-15T11:01:40","modified_gmt":"2025-10-15T11:01:40","slug":"city-women-head-for-li-conn-nj-for-guys-who-can-commit_","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asiancemagazine.com\/?p=13678","title":{"rendered":"City women head for LI, Conn. &#038; NJ for guys who can commit_"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Gorgeous single women are ditching the Manhattan dating scene in droves \u2014 and are increasingly looking for sex and love in the suburbs.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the city\u2019s most eligible bachelorettes told The Post the trend developed when they grew fed up with immature city men who aren\u2019t willing to commit.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, the women would rather hop on the commuter train to Westchester County, Greenwich, Conn., Nassau County and New Jersey hot spots that are now teeming with available mates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGreenwich guys have gotten a lot younger,\u201d said raven-haired Megan Glynn, 30, who lives in the East Village and is a visual-presentation coordinator for jewelry company David Yurman.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt used to be all families, but now it\u2019s more of a business mini-mecca.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Women like Glynn took the advice of dating experts, who for years have been telling city women to look in the suburbs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you look, you\u2019ll see these single guys advertising online, \u2018Come out here, come date me,\u2019 \u201d said relationship expert Heidi Banks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t just look at the radius of NYC. You don\u2019t know who you are going to meet outside of the city.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Glynn often takes a 30-minute ride on Metro-North after work on Wednesdays or Thursdays to meet mature men with established careers at banks and hedge funds.<\/p>\n<p>Most New York men, she said, are too obsessed with appearances.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGuys in New York City are constantly emasculated when they have to buy a bottle to get into a club or they take a girl back to their apartment that they share with five other guys,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>It also helps that there\u2019s less competition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s not a lot of attractive females,\u201d Glynn bluntly said about Connecticut clubs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019re smart and witty and you go out to Greenwich, you can do well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On her most recent trip last Wednesday, she settled in at the waterfront restaurant and lounge L\u2019Escale.<\/p>\n<p>She quickly found Doug Bookbinder, a 28-year-old finance entrepreneur.<\/p>\n<p>The two flirted on a bench and later exchanged phone numbers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverybody\u2019s doing it,\u201d said Anna Rothschild, an Upper East Side divorcee in her 40s who takes a car service to Greenwich several times a month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have friends who go up there all the time for drinks after work,\u201d she told The Post at Greenwich hot spot J House last week. \u201cThere\u2019s so many guys! I don\u2019t know which way to look,\u201d she said, settling down for the night with Tim Mehnert, an actor and model.<\/p>\n<p>Another professional woman said she goes to the suburbs because the men are \u201cpreppy, not pretentious.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUgly guys in Manhattan, they think they\u2019re hot stuff,\u201d said Robyn Kassner, a 35-year-old owner of branding firm Haute PR who lives on the Upper East Side.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn Connecticut, they\u2019re just very normal, very sweet, very unassuming. They don\u2019t have game. They\u2019re steak-and-potatoes American. They don\u2019t care about fashion, they\u2019re not metrosexual,\u201d said Kassner, who hopped on a train to Stamford, Conn., on July 12 for an outdoor concert featuring alt-rocker Matisyahu in order to meet a decent guy.<\/p>\n<p>High-end matchmakers said it\u2019s a matter of time before heading to the suburbs is no longer considered a trend \u2014 and becomes the norm.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t see it going away,\u201d said Bravo\u2019s \u201cMillionaire Matchmaker\u201d Patti Stanger.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe men are not in the city; they\u2019re buying houses in a down economy. If you want to get married, you have to go to where the men are. Try online dating focused on an area.<\/p>\n<p>In my opinion, they are the same everywhere. The key is to find a man at the right time: when he is ready for commitment. It doesn&#8217;t matter whether he is in the city or the burbs.
