{"id":14445,"date":"2012-11-18T17:11:21","date_gmt":"2012-11-18T17:11:21","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2012-11-18T17:11:21","modified_gmt":"2012-11-18T17:11:21","slug":"Baidu-Offers-Extra-Cloud-Storage-on-Qualcomm-phones","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asiancemagazine.com\/?p=14445","title":{"rendered":"Baidu Offers Extra Cloud Storage on Qualcomm phones"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>China\u2019s biggest search engine has buddied up with chip-maker Qualcomm (NASDAQ:QCOM) to offer extra free cloud storage to people who buy certain Android-based, Qualcomm-powered smartphones.<\/strong> It\u2019ll see Baidu\u2019s (NASDAQ:BIDU) new Dropbox-like service, called WangPan, offering those new phone-owners double the usual cloud storage space.<\/p>\n<p>The deal covers phones sold in China that are powered by Qualcomm\u2019s new Snapdragon 8\u00d725 and 8x25Q chips. For people who don\u2019t give a crap about what chips are inside their phones, it just means they\u2019ll get more free cloud storage if they buy phones or tablets like the Huawei G330D\/G330C (Ascend), Coolpad 7266, the K-touch W760, Hisense U950, or Lenovo S686. Not a hugely sexy list of hardware, but we noted last week that domestic brands now make up 60 percent of the China smartphone market \u2013 the top three are the afore-mentioned Lenovo, CoolPad, and Huawei \u2013 so this Baidu-Qualcomm deal has the potential to reach a lot of people.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How much extra storage is it worth?<\/strong> New phone buyers will get double the usual 15GB of Baidu Wangpan storage for free \u2013 a useful 30GB \u2013 for the duration of the phone\u2019s lifespan.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.techinasia.com\/baidu-cloud-store-qualcomm-smartphones\/\">via
