{"id":14609,"date":"2012-12-21T03:12:38","date_gmt":"2012-12-21T03:12:38","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2012-12-21T03:12:38","modified_gmt":"2012-12-21T03:12:38","slug":"Malaysia-s-first-3D-animated-film-makes-waves-internationally","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asiancemagazine.com\/?p=14609","title":{"rendered":"Malaysia&#8217;s first 3D animated film makes waves internationally"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Malaysia&#8217;s first 3D animated film &#8220;War of the Worlds Goliath&#8221; is making waves internationally; it recently won the Best 3D Animated Feature award at the Los Angeles 3D Film Festival.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Set in an alternate 1914 New York, War of the Worlds Goliath is about a second wave alien invasion.<\/strong> The film is a tribute to HG Wells&#8217; novel War of the Worlds, said its producer Leon Tan.<\/p>\n<p>The film is the first 3D animated movie ever produced in Malaysia, said Mr Tan.<\/p>\n<p><iframe width=\"500\" height=\"315\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/7MNmNdP8xzE\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We (are targeting) those who like science fiction, theme parks, animation and games\u2026 all the incarnations of HG Well&#8217;s War of the Worlds in the last 100 years. We just want to add to their heritage,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Leon, who is Malaysian, gave up his banking career in Singapore to venture into film making five years ago.<\/p>\n<p>The movie took a team of talents from America, South Korea and Malaysia four years and US$30 million to put together.<\/p>\n<p>Their hard work paid off when the movie beat Hollywood blockbusters like Madagascar 3 and Paranorman to win the Best 3D Animated Feature award in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The path of acceleration is tremendous. I won&#8217;t say (Malaysia) has a long way to go; we certainly accelerated our learning curve,&#8221; said Mr Tan.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s very naive to assume that we can just get there overnight. There&#8217;s a lot of work&#8230; a lot of mistakes were made and we learn from our mistakes,&#8221; said Gavin Yap, the film&#8217;s voice director.<\/p>\n<p>The project is one initiative under Malaysia&#8217;s economic transformation program to spur its creative content industry.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We would like to push the bar, the standards of our industry production&#8230; The way we tell stories, the way we assemble projects of this nature&#8230; to show the world we can do it,&#8221; said Mr Tan.<\/p>\n<p>Industry experts say the film is a good start, and that it has provided Malaysia with a platform to further export its creative content.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The film also serves as a platform for Malaysia to attract production and post-production jobs in animation and promote the country as the regional hub for creative content, they said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>via channelnewsasia<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Malaysia&#8217;s first 3D animated film &#8220;War of the Worlds Goliath&#8221;
