Attorney Carlia Magpantay Brady is on track to become the first Philippine-born Superior Court judge in the State of New Jersey,<\/strong> two local Filipino-American outlets<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n

According to an article by Edmund M. Silvestre in the Filipino Reporter<\/a>, Brady was confirmed on February 21 before the 13-member judiciary committee of the State Senate in Trenton\u2019s State House.<\/p>\n

She will become the only Filipino-American judge to join the current roster of 360 New Jersey Superior Court judges once her confirmation is upheld<\/strong> by the full State Senate sometime this March.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am thrilled because this is a huge honor to serve the people of the State of New Jersey,\u201d said Brady, 41, a registered Democrat, in an exclusive interview with the Reporter.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt has always been my dream to serve my community and the State of New Jersey,\u201d said the U.S.-educated lawyer, who was nominated by Gov. Chris Christie.<\/p>\n

Brady, a resident of Woodbridge, N.J., is a litigation partner at the law firm Stark & Stark. <\/strong>She was born in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, and the family settled in New Jersey in 1976 when Brady was only six.<\/p>\n

The Philippine Daily Mirror noted that Brady is only the latest of a series of Filipino-American judges being sworn in recently in the area.<\/p>\n

First, it was Lorna Schofield on the federal level in New York, followed recently by Jersey City acting Chief Judge Carlo Abad on a municipal level. Now comes Carlia M. Brady, a 41-year-old Philippine-born lawyer from Middlesex County in New Jersey who may become the first Filipino American to sit as a judge in the Superior Court.
