{"id":15085,"date":"2013-03-07T20:03:52","date_gmt":"2013-03-07T20:03:52","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2013-03-07T20:03:31","modified_gmt":"2013-03-07T20:03:31","slug":"AKB48-becomes-first-Japanese-girl-group-to-hit-20m-in-single-sales","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asiancemagazine.com\/?p=15085","title":{"rendered":"AKB48 becomes first Japanese girl group to hit 20m in single sales"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Recent sales data revealed that Japanese idol group AKB48 has become the first J-pop girl group to hit 20 million in cumulative single sales,<\/strong> reported Japanese media.<\/p>\n<p>AKB48 also took the shortest time to hit that figure, taking just seven years and one month to get there since the release of their debut single &#8220;Cherry Blossom Petals&#8221; in February 2006.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Japanese band Mr. Children was the previous speed champ, taking eight years to hit the 20 million single sales mark in 2000.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>One of AKB48&#8217;s hit singles &#8220;Baby! Baby! Baby!&#8221;<\/strong><br \/>\n<iframe width=\"500\" height=\"315\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/yNg3mcjhq9w\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>AKB48 is among just a handful of Japanese acts like SMAP, Ayumi Hamasaki, B&#8217;z and the Southern All Stars that have managed to hit the 20 million mark in cumulative single sales.<\/p>\n<p>Created in 2005 by Japanese music producer Yasushi Akimoto, <strong>AKB48 has since gone on to become one of the most popular acts in Japan<\/strong>, and has spawned splinter groups in <strong>China<\/strong> as well as
