{"id":15340,"date":"2013-04-24T02:04:42","date_gmt":"2013-04-24T02:04:42","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2013-04-24T02:04:42","modified_gmt":"2013-04-24T02:04:42","slug":"State-government-lags-in-hiring-Asian-American-workers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asiancemagazine.com\/?p=15340","title":{"rendered":"State government lags in hiring Asian-American workers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>State agencies are starting to plan how they\u2019ll hire more Asian-American workers.<\/strong> Tuesday, a new Asian-American Advisory Council, handpicked by Governor Pat Quinn, meets with agency representatives to identify barriers to Asian-American employment and promotion in the state labor force.<\/p>\n<p>The council will also chart out how they\u2019ll recruit, retain, and promote more <strong>Asian-Americans<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The effort comes from the State Asian-American Employment Plan, passed in the General Assembly and signed by Quinn last year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The effort is similar to other plans for Hispanics and African-Americans, aimed at ensuring the mix of state employees reflects Illinois\u2019 diversity.<\/strong> A report released in February shows that although Asian-Americans represent about 5 percent of Illinois\u2019 population, they comprise only about 2.5 percent of the state\u2019s workforce.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wbez.org\/state-government-lags-hiring-asian-american-workers-106789\">Source<\/a><br \/>\n<!--break--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>State agencies are starting to plan how they\u2019ll hire more Asian-American workers.
