Paramount Pictures and \u201cTransformers 4\u201d director Michael Bay announced Monday that Chinese actress Li Bing Bing will join Mark Wahlberg and Nicola Peltz as part of the film\u2019s cast.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“I am excited to have Li Bingbing join our cast and to be shooting portions of the movie in her native China.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have always aspired to work with the best actors and this cast is especially exciting now with the addition of Li,” said Michael Bay in a media statement.<\/p>\n

Li, who is best known for her performances in \u201cForbidden Kingdom\u201d and more recently, \u201cResident Evil: Retribution\u201d, said in a statement that she is \u201cthrilled\u201d to work on the film, as \u201c\u2019Transformers\u2019 has influenced generations in China and the movie franchise has a massive fan base\u201d.<\/p>\n

While many Chinese netizens have congratulated Li on snagging a role in a Hollywood blockbuster like \u201cTransformers 4\u201d, others believe casting her is a purely commercial move to make the film more palatable to Chinese audiences, and wondered if she will be a glorified extra in the film.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cTransformers 4\u201d will be a co-production between US film giant Paramount Pictures, the state-run China Movie Channel along with Chinese streaming service provider Jiaflix.<\/p>\n

The film is set four years after the war between the Autobots and Decepticons in \u201cTransformers: Dark of the Moon\u201d.<\/p>\n

It is scheduled for release in June next year.<\/p>\n
