{"id":15498,"date":"2013-05-22T18:05:02","date_gmt":"2013-05-22T18:05:02","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2025-10-15T11:49:18","modified_gmt":"2025-10-15T11:49:18","slug":"the-fortune-society-raises-over-100-000","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asiancemagazine.com\/?p=15498","title":{"rendered":"The Fortune Society raises over $100,000"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Last Thursday, at the Bowery Hotel in Manhattan, hundreds of young philanthropists came together for The Fortune Society\u2019s Third Annual Spring Soiree, supporting life-changing programs and services for men and women coming out of jail and prison.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is our third year covering this event, on a such a beautiful night, and we are pleased to report that <strong>The Third Annual \u201cSpring Soiree,\u201d <\/strong>hosted by <strong>The Fortune Society\u2019s Junior Committee and Co-Chaired by Luke Weil, Louise Tabbiner, and Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter John Forte, raised over $100,000!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think this shows the enduring commitment of our generation of philanthropists to this worthy and important mission,&#8221; Luke Weil, co-chair of the event, added.<\/p>\n<p>JoAnne Page, President and CEO of The Fortune Society, said, \u201cThe future of the Fortune Society is strong because of the work of our Junior Committee including Luke Weil, Louise Tabbiner, and John Forte. We are deeply grateful for their enthusiasm, energy and deep commitment to helping men and women with criminal records make a successful transition back home where they are able to rebuild their lives with Fortune\u2019s help.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Receiving The Fortune\u2019s Society\u2019s Spotlight Award was renowned documentary filmmaker Eugene Jarecki (Why We Fight, Trials of Henry Kissinger) honored for his most recent film, <strong>The House I Live In<\/strong>, which examines the human rights implications of America\u2019s war on drugs through the lens of those who experience it first hand. The film was awarded the Grand Jury Prize for documentary at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival.<\/p>\n<p><object width=\"500\" height=\"360\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/a0atL1HSwi8?hl=en_US&amp;version=3\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/a0atL1HSwi8?hl=en_US&amp;version=3\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"500\" height=\"360\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p><strong>DJ Alexander Dexter-Jones<\/strong> kept the party going strong for the young philanthropists who represent the finance, the arts, fashion, sports, journalism, marketing, public relations and entertainment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Fortune Society<\/strong> noted the generous contribution of the Soiree\u2019s sponsors including <strong>Alacran Tequila, Alice &#038; Olivia, American Prison Data Systems, Atlantico Rum, Avantair, Barefoot, Moda Operandi, Raleigh, Runa, Silent Models NY, The Hole, Veev and WhistlePig.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The evening also featured a silent auction. <strong>Some of the hot ticket items included four hours on a private jet, a trip to Ecuador, Blue RidgeMountain getaway, a stay at the W Hotel in South Beach, Florida, a Marc Jacobs clutch, jewelry by Debra Shepard and artwork from The Hole, a gallery in NYC.<\/strong><br
