{"id":15692,"date":"2013-06-25T19:06:31","date_gmt":"2013-06-25T19:06:31","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2013-06-25T19:06:31","modified_gmt":"2013-06-25T19:06:31","slug":"Asian-American-woman-claims-former-employer-ignored-discrimination-complaints","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asiancemagazine.com\/?p=15692","title":{"rendered":"Asian American woman claims former employer ignored discrimination complaints"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>After she was supposedly fired from Taylor Morrison of Texas Inc. and Taylor Morrison Inc. for lodging a complaint about racism in the workplace, Sylan Chang pursues legal action.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Chang <\/strong>filed a lawsuit against the defendants in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas on June 17.<\/p>\n<p>She was employed as a senior sales associate at the time of the events for which she complains.<\/p>\n<p>According to the suit, a white co-worker referred to her as the \u201clittle Asian lady\u201d to other employees, buyers and prospects as well as acted hostile towards her both physically and over the phone.<\/p>\n<p>It adds the plaintiff complained through e-mail and in face to face conversations with her superiors to no avail as \u201ctheir response was one of indifference.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chang further alleges that her then-direct supervisor told her that \u201cthe Asian culture is difficult to work with.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One last complaint against the colleague who was purportedly abusive toward the plaintiff was filed on May 8, 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Taylor Morrison fired Chang four days later to which the suit argues was retaliatory.<\/p>\n<p>A jury trial is requested.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Attorney Melissa Moore of Moore &#038;
