{"id":15700,"date":"2013-06-26T21:06:01","date_gmt":"2013-06-26T21:06:01","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2013-06-26T21:06:01","modified_gmt":"2013-06-26T21:06:01","slug":"Late-birdies-not-enough-for-Michelle-Wie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asiancemagazine.com\/?p=15700","title":{"rendered":"Late birdies not enough for Michelle Wie"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Michelle Wie birdied three of her last four holes in Thursday\u2019s start of the U.S. Women\u2019s Open.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>She still shot 80 at Sebonack Golf Club.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It was a long, tough day for the 23-year-old trying to mount a late run to make the American Solheim Cup team, but she nobly stepped to the USGA media stage when asked to after her round.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wie\u2019s day started with a quadruple-bogey 8 at No. 10.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s tough on this golf course once you get started on the wrong foot,\u201d Wie said.<\/p>\n<p>Her tough start came after she hooked her first tee shot into a bunker, then chopped out into deep rough, then hacked her next shot into deeper fescue, where she lost her ball.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverything that could have gone wrong went wrong today, but I am proud of myself making [three] birdies in the last [four] holes,\u201d Wie said. \u201cHopefully, the last three birdies will give me momentum tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wie is battling to make the American Solheim Cup team with time running out.<\/strong> There are just four qualifying events left to make the team for the Aug. 16-18 matches at Colorado Golf Club. There are double points available in a major this week for top-20 finishers.
