Padma debuted her new collection of porcelain and glassware. <\/strong>\u201cI\u2019ve always wanted to do china,\u201d says Lakshmi, who has been designing jewelry for several years. Many of the motifs in the collection were based on traditional decorative forms, including rangoli, designs created in rice in the entrances of many Indian homes during Hindu festivals, and minakari, a highly detailed Persian enameling process.<\/p>\n

Classic white dinnerware is enhanced by filigree patterns and fields of painterly flowers.<\/strong> Lakshmi notes that she and her design team carefully researched and chose flowers that grow together and that the collection features colors reflecting each of the four seasons.<\/p>\n

Above all, Lakshmi wanted the line to be practical\u2014but not boring. \u201cI\u2019m usually eating in bed out of a bowl, so I wanted something beautiful,\u201d she says. Even if your dinner doesn\u2019t quite measure up to the level of Lakshmi\u2019s (she\u2019s also the author of two bestselling cookbooks), it can still look stunning.<\/p>\n
