{"id":16333,"date":"2013-11-15T04:11:53","date_gmt":"2013-11-15T04:11:53","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2013-11-15T04:11:14","modified_gmt":"2013-11-15T04:11:14","slug":"In-China-One-child-policy-to-be-relaxed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asiancemagazine.com\/?p=16333","title":{"rendered":"In China One-child policy to be relaxed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>China is to relax its policy of restricting most couples to having only a single child, state media say.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In future, families will be allowed two children if one parent is an only child, the Xinhua news agency said.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal follows this week&#8217;s meeting of a key decision-making body of the governing Communist Party.<\/p>\n<p>Other reforms include the abolition of &#8220;re-education through labor&#8221; camps and moves to boost the role of the private sector in the economy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>China introduced its one-child policy at the end of the 1970s to curb rapid population growth.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>But correspondents say <strong>the policy has become increasingly unpopular and that leaders fear the country&#8217;s aging population will both reduce the labor pool and exacerbate elderly care issues.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>By 2050, more than a quarter of the population will be over 65. <\/p>\n<p>In the countryside, families are allowed to have two children if the first is a girl. <\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/world-asia-china-24957303\">Source www.bbc.co.uk<\/a><\/em><br \/>\n<!--break--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>China is to relax its policy of restricting most couples to having only a single child, state media say.
