And this time, the group on the block includes two of the company&#8217;s more diverse offerings, African American C\u00e9cile and <strong>Asian American Ivy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How can you not have an Asian American doll when all you talk about in the following promotional video is how great it is to be an &#8216;American Girl&#8217;? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe width=\"500\" height=\"315\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fAhd7-p0eDs\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>American Girl announced the move on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo.php?fbid=732000463509783&#038;set=a.417907931585706.91492.175829615793540&#038;type=1\">Facebook<\/a>; C\u00e9cile&#8217;s fellow resident of antebellum New Orleans Marie-Grace, as well as Depression-era Ruthie, are also being discontinued.<\/p>\n<p>Seven dolls remain, and they&#8217;re bringing back Samantha, as well. (Don&#8217;t all squeal at once, Samanthas.) All but Addy, Josefina (a Latina living in New Mexico) and Kaya (who&#8217;s Nez Perce) are white. While there&#8217;s a decently diverse selection of &#8220;My American Girl&#8221; dolls\u2014which is table stakes, really\u2014previous Girl of the Year dolls are an overwhelmingly white lot. <\/p>\n<p>The dolls getting kicked to the archive are all &#8220;best friends,&#8221; companion dolls to main characters, which the company is phasing out. <\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/jezebel.com\/american-girl-discontinues-two-dolls-of-color-1580088666\">Source<\/a><\/em><br \/>\n<!--break--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>American Girl is discontinuing more of its historical characters.
