At The Wall Street Journal\u2019s WSJ.D Live Conference, Leaders From Around the Globe Talked About Where the Technology World Is Headed, and How It\u2019s Likely to Get There. <\/strong><\/p>\n

At Google\u2019s \u201cmoon shot\u201d division, they are working on ingestible pellets that would attach themselves to cancer cells and report back data to doctors. Apple CEO Tim Cook and Alibaba chief Jack Ma said they are intrigued by a possible partnership on payment systems. Venture capitalist Marc Andreessen said that tech valuations are \u201crunning a little warm.\u201d<\/p>\n

These were just a few of the revelations at the Wall Street Journal\u2019s inaugural WSJD Live global technology conference, held in Laguna Beach, Calif., last week. In front of more than 200 attendees from 21 countries, some of the most important newsmakers from around the world took the stage to discuss tech\u2019s most provocative issues and dynamic new breakthroughs. Among them:<\/p>\n

\u2014 Chen Lifang, senior vice president of Huawei Technologies, addressed the company\u2019s dramatic pivot to making smartphones, and the continuing ban on selling networking equipment in the U.S.<\/p>\n

\u2014 Axelle Lemaire, France\u2019s digital minister, challenged big U.S. tech companies to adapt to regulations designed to limit their market power in Europe.<\/p>\n

\u2014 Movie mogul James Cameron said he thinks the excitement over virtual reality is overblown.<\/p>\n

\u2014 Former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer sang bits of songs from Bing Crosby and Fergie (among other things).<\/p>\n

\u2014 Legendary tech investor Peter Thiel said that when it comes to tech, the U.S. government is stuck in the Middle Ages.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, scientists from the University of California, San Francisco took the audience on a visual tour of the brain of WSJ personal columnist Geoffrey Fowler; and News Corp Chairman Rupert Murdoch and telecommunications billionaire Carlos Slim discussed lifetime bets they have won and lost.<\/p>\n
