{"id":18174,"date":"2014-12-20T03:12:54","date_gmt":"2014-12-20T03:12:54","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2014-12-20T03:12:54","modified_gmt":"2014-12-20T03:12:54","slug":"Asian-American-rabbi-lights-menorah-at-White-House","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asiancemagazine.com\/?p=18174","title":{"rendered":"Asian-American rabbi lights menorah at White House"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Rabbi Angela Buchdahl lit the menorah at the White House on Wednesday said lighting Hanukkah candles in front of an African American president is something America\u2019s founding fathers would have never predicted.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would say that our founding fathers, they inspired to build a county that was truly a place of religious freedom and equal opportunity for all,\u201d Rabbi Angela Buchdahl said while addressing a Hanukkah reception at the White House. \u201cBut I have to predict that they could not imagine that in 2014 that there would be a female, Asian-American rabbi lighting the menorah at the White House for an African-American president.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou don\u2019t think they predicted that? Really?\u201d President Obama sarcastically asked Buchdahl, who is the senior rabbi at Manhattan\u2019s Central Synagogue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think they\u2019d be surprised,\u201d she replied. \u201cBut we are celebrating miracles that happen today. Those days of old and the miracles of now and this country is a country of miracles.
