{"id":18269,"date":"2015-01-21T03:01:46","date_gmt":"2015-01-21T03:01:46","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2015-01-21T03:01:46","modified_gmt":"2015-01-21T03:01:46","slug":"Netflix-looks-to-untapped-Asian-markets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asiancemagazine.com\/?p=18269","title":{"rendered":"Netflix looks to untapped Asian markets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Netflix boss Reed Hastings is hoping to find greater riches through a trade route to China.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hastings, whose video-streaming service continues to add global subscribers at a respectable clip, told investors Tuesday he\u2019s trying to amp up the 4.33 million-subscriber growth of the fourth quarter by cracking open the giant Asian market.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re exploring the option,\u201d the Netflix CEO said. \u201cWe need to get a license. If we go, it will be a modest investment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Netflix is also looking to roll out in other Asian markets, including Japan and South Korea, Hastings said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If successful, Netflix would face competition from Alibaba\u2019s Jack Ma, who is already making plans for a subscription movie and TV service for the Chinese market.<\/p>\n<p>While the cost of expansion may be modest, the company said content costs are certainly not.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Netflix will raise at least $1 billion of long-term debt to help fund content costs, among other expenses.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Source AP<\/em><br \/>\n<!--break--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Netflix boss Reed Hastings is hoping to find greater riches through a trade route to China.
