Singapore will host Asia’s first super-yacht show this spring, drawing the region’s jet set to a marina full of multimillion-dollar water toys.<\/p>\n
Although the city-state is trying to position itself as a regional megaboating hub, the event is likely to cater mostly to the Chinese market, as the mainland has a growing share of nouveau-riche shoppers and a burgeoning yacht-building industry.<\/p>\n
The show’s organizers say they plan to consider only yachts that are \u201cluxurious and over 25 meters in length.\u201d Super yachts are generally classified as luxury motor or sailing yachts of 100 feet (30 meters) or longer, but the definition can vary.<\/p>\n
The Singapore Yacht Show will take place at ONE\u00b015 Marina Club in Sentosa Cove from April 8 to 10. The event is organized by Informa Yacht Group, the same outfit that put on the Monaco Yacht Show, the Superyacht Cup Regattas and the Abu Dhabi Yacht Show.<\/p>\n
Shows like this bring together shipyards, brokers, designers, naval architects and anyone with an interest in the industry. It’s a place to look at, step aboard and consider buying some of the most expensive floating real estate in the world.<\/p>\n
But don’t book your flight to Singapore yet \u2014 this is an invitation-only event, complete with gala dinner, cocktail receptions, golf tournament and various soirees. (You probably haven’t been invited.)<\/p>\n
