Christine Chen, a civil rights activist for Asian Pacific Islander Americans, talked about the population’s contributions to society during an Asian American\/Pacific Islander Heritage Month observance program today at the Bob Jones Auditorium on Redstone Arsenal.<\/p>\n
According to arsenal officials, one of Chen’s goals is to uplift the APIA heritage and contributions as well as integrate their stories into American history and culture.<\/p>\n
She was profiled by Newsweek in 2001 as one of 15 women who will shape America’s new century and served from 2001-05 as national executive director of the Organization of Chinese Americans, one of the leading APIA civil rights organizations in the country. <\/p>\n
