At the time, he only new one other person in the city who hailed from his small South-Asian country. That has changed dramatically in the last few years. Since 2009, about 23,000 of Sharma&#8217;s compatriots have relocated to the U.S. from refugee camps in Nepal, where they had been living for up to 18 years.
