Amir Khan has revealed he will return to the ring again in December with Robert Guerrero and Devon Alexander under consideration as opponents, as the British boxer builds on a thrilling victory over Luis Collazo in his first contest at welterweight.<\/p>\n
Khan also said that a potential match-up with former sparring partner and eight-weight world champion Manny Pacquiao is under consideration if his plans for a showdown with boxing’s No?1 pound-for-pound prize-fighter Floyd Mayweather Jnr fail to materialise in May 2015.<\/p>\n
Religious beliefs stopped Khan from being available to face Mayweather in September, with Khan’s former victim Marcos Maidana getting the re-match on Sept 17 in Las Vegas.<\/p>\n
Yet Khan, after the shenanigans of his on\/off fight with Mayweather, and the American’s mind games earlier this year, remains philosophical about the prospect of their meeting in a ring.<\/p>\n
Khan, 27, told The Telegraph in an exclusive interview: “If the Mayweather fight happens, it happens. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t. It’s one of those fights I wanted and everyone else wanted. I really believe the speed could have given him a lot of problems.” <\/p>\n
“But for December we’re looking at a few names, the likes of Alexander, Guerrero. [Andre] Berto has also been mentioned but we train together, so that would be quite hard. I like Berto, he’s a good friend of mine.<\/p>\n
“But I’m one of those guys – I’ll never say ‘no’ to a fight. I’ll take whoever they decide to put me against.”<\/p>\n
And Khan added with relish in his voice: “Manny Pacquiao is another name. What a great story line that would make. Amir Khan fighting his old sparring partner and friend, Manny Pacquiao.<\/p>\n
“Freddie Roach used to train me, so there’s a lot of history there. That would be a huge fight. I know what to expect from Manny Pacquiao. We used to get the better of him in sparring and everything.<\/p>\n
“Manny Pacquiao is still the same fighter. I still have a lot of respect for him, he’s a great fighter, but these are the fights I want.”<\/p>\n
Khan, who is currently in the middle of observing the fasting rituals of Ramadan, said: “I want to be back in San Francisco with Virgil Hunter and into training camp by September.<\/p>\n
“A fight in the first week or second week of December would be ideal. I’d like it to be in England, but there’s a lot of talk that it may be in Dubai. I’m just going to let Al Haymon [Khan’s adviser] and the team, Golden Boy, give me a few options and I’ll take it from there.”<\/p>\n
Khan appears unconcerned over the split at his US promoters Golden Boy, Oscar de la Hoya’s company. CEO Richard Schaefer quit last month. “I’m in a great position, to be honest with you,” he said. “I’m with Golden Boy and I’m also with Al Haymon. I’m in the middle. I’ve got the best of both teams.”<\/p>\n
The strength of Khan’s position is that Haymon also advises Mayweather, and several other world top 10 welterweights.<\/p>\n
Khan explained: “Richard is a good friend of mine and when they had that split, he went out of his way to call me. He said, ‘You’re a good friend of mine, Amir, and I just want to tell you I’m going to be leaving Golden Boy.’ He said he just needs a break.<\/p>\n
“Oscar also called me and said he wanted to take charge more of his company and do the best for his fighters. I respect both guys. They’re good friends of mine and have helped me out a lot in my boxing career. I’m still with Golden Boy and I’ve got some big fights in the future. Oscar is doing his best to get me what I want.”<\/p>\n
Khan also has potential match-ups closer to home. “I’d like to also fight guys like Keith Thurman and the winner of Shawn Porter and Kell Brook. That would be amazing.”<\/p>\n
Sheffield’s Kell Brook, unbeaten in 32 contests, challenges Porter for the International Boxing Federation crown in California on Aug 16.<\/p>\n
“Kell has to get past that fight and I think it will show what Kell is made of. If he wins, a fight between me and Kell would be huge in England and America. I’m game for anyone, right now. Any big fight.”<\/p>\n
