Restaurants in northern New Jersey that don’t have liquor licenses are pressing to change the rules so their customers can bring a popular Korean alcoholic beverage with them.<\/p>\n
But restaurants that have licenses are fighting the BYOBs, saying they paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to serve soju and other drinks.<\/p>\n
The distilled liquor is popular with residents in Korean enclaves in Bergen County.<\/p>\n
Assemblyman Gordon Johnson tells The Record (http:\/\/bit.ly\/1rMyANZ ) newspaper he’s asked the Office of Legislative Services to draft a bill to change the BYOB law that allows patrons to bring wine and beer to restaurants to include soju.<\/p>\n
Johnson also says he plans to meet with liquor license holders and BYOB owners to try to broker an agreement.<\/p>\n
