\nWhen I was younger it was really difficult for me to get acting jobs because you’re a kid and you don’t fit in the typical family.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nCrystal started off her career as a model and was quite successful. She won several modeling competitions and has been featured as a centerfold and as a cover model for numerous magazines. She was a model for the video-games Need for Speed 2004 and Fight Night 2004, but acting has always been her passion. Her first introduction was at the age of five in which she performed in plays for the church Sunday school program where her mother was a teacher. <\/p>\n

\nAs soon as Crystal got on stage, she didn’t want to get off; she loved it. From then on, Crystal begged her mother to put her into acting. Her mother did, only to pull her back out, saying that she felt the competitive nature of the business was not healthy for a young Crystal. Crystal’s mother couldn’t take the begging anymore so at the age of fifteen, Crystal got her wish; the blessing from her mother.<\/p>\n

\nCrystal’s first professional role was as a guest star on Stargate. Following were roles in Final Destination 3, Snakes on a Plane, Scary Movie 4, The L-Word, Da Vinci’s Inquest, Flight 121, Insomnia, The Collector, Wrong Turn 2 and the lead in Black Christmas. <\/p>\n

\nNot only is Crystal an actress and model, she is also a spokesperson for Wheel Company “Konig”, Sylvester Stallone’s health product line “Instone”, Coors Light (Beer) and Imvasian (modeling\/clothing\/DVD line).
\nA multi-talented actress and model, Crystal’s career is continuing to grow and her future looks incredibly promising. Asiance had a chance to chat with Crystal on her latest role and where she is headed next!

ASIANCE: What is your ethnic background?<\/h3>\n

Crystal: <\/b> I am half Chinese and half Scottish. My dad is Chinese. My mom is Scottish.<\/p>\n

ASIANCE: Where did you grow up? <\/h3>\n

Crystal: <\/b> I grew up in Vancouver but I lived in Hong Kong for 2 years when I was 8 to 10 years old. I speak Cantonese.<\/p>\n

ASIANCE: Tell us about Black Christmas! More fun? Different?<\/h3>\n

Crystal: <\/b> Black Christmas is the remake of the 1974 horror movie. Black Christmas tells the story about Billy, a young boy abused by his mother. While his mother was cheating on Billy’s father, she eventually killed his father and kept Billy in the attic – for good, while she was with her lover and starting a “new” family. As Billy’s mother fell pregnant with a daughter and treated her with love, which Billy had never experienced with his mother, Billy came out of the attic after years and brutally murdered his mother and her lover.
\nCut to present day, a group of eight sorority sisters consisting of Kelli (Katie Cassidy), Dana (Lacey Chabert), Lauren (me), Megan (Jessica Harmon), Claire (Leela Savasta), Heather (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Megan (Jessica Harmon) and Melissa (Michelle Trachtenberg) and their house mother (Andrea Martin),who now live in Billy’s childhood home, find themselves being harassed by threatening and intimidating mystery phone-calls during Christmas Break and as one of the girls goes missing, the girls begin being murdered one by one by no other than Billy…
\nI play the character of Lauren Hannon, an attractive and urban, take-charge young woman, who is another member of the Phi Kappa sorority. It’s an awful remake that will scare the crap out of people! (laughs)<\/p>\n

ASIANCE: Was there anything funny or hilarious that happened on the set among all the girls?<\/h3>\n

Crystal: <\/b> Shockingly no cat fights! I was hoping because I love watching drama from the outside.. Andrea Martin is a big comedian. She was amazing to work with and constantly on.

ASIANCE: How does your character differentiate from the other girl’s?<\/h3>\n

Crystal: <\/b> I am that girl that hates Christmas. Everyone has that one friend who doesn’t like Christmas. My character was the one where Christmas wasn’t a good time. I’m cynical and bitchy.. Christmas is a joke. I’m the party girl! Not a nice drunk!<\/p>\n

ASIANCE: Who would you LOVE to work with?<\/h3>\n

Crystal: <\/b> There are so many people.. Meryl Streep and Dustin Hoffman. Angelina Jolie would be amazing too. I think she is adorable. Oh yeah Brad Pitt. I just want to eat him.<\/p>\n

ASIANCE: What would be your ultimate project?<\/h3>\n

Crystal: <\/b> I love theatre. I like watching it. I like film and television. I don’t mind getting up at 4am and going to bed at 12am.. I would like to do a television drama and a have a lead role on Grey’s Anatomy or something like that.<\/p>\n

ASIANCE: What’s next? Good Luck Chuck?<\/h3>\n

Crystal: <\/b> I did a cameo in Fantastic 4 too. I am also in another horror Wrong Turn 2 that should be out in the Spring. <\/p>\n

ASIANCE: Do you have a boyfriend?<\/h3>\n

Crystal: <\/b> I have someone in my life who’s the most supportive amazing person!
\nI just want to get married to wear a pretty dress and have people look at me and tell me I’m so pretty all day.<\/p>\n

My Chinese grandmother is telling me to “Hurry up, you’re so old!”<\/p>\n

ASIANCE: What is it about the Asian market that you want to experience?<\/h3>\n

Crystal: <\/b> It’s a part of who I am. It’s such a different world.. the arts, the entertainment.. Just being around… I’d love to go all over anything with Hong Kong & Chinese Culture… I’d also like to explore Japan, just to experience it. <\/p>\n

ASIANCE: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?<\/h3>\n

Crystal: <\/b> I hope to be doing a couple different things. I would love to be in four movies a year. I am also hopeful that I will be doing more for myself. I would like to own several businesses. I’m Asian so there’s a business side of me. I would like to own a few specialty boutiques in Vancouver. So my kids can say, “My mom owns these stores”.<\/p>\n

ASIANCE: What do you love about modeling the most? What do you hate about modeling the most?<\/h3>\n

Crystal: <\/b> What I do love is the traveling…and getting paid for it! I like being in front of a camera.. It’s an outlet. It’s fun! If you look through my photo album they are all modeling poses. My mom was a young mom so she took tons of pictures of me. <\/p>\n

There is so much about modeling that I don’t like! What I hate? It makes you so image conscious all the time. I like to be healthy and stay fit. I am constantly thinking that I have to weigh this much which is always on my mind regarding working out and watching what I eat.<\/p>\n

ASIANCE: Do you like to eat?<\/h3>\n

Crystal: <\/b> I love to eat!!! I can’t drink. I have that Asian gene! I can have a quarter class of wine and then my face turns red.<\/p>\n

ASIANCE: What about your workout routine?<\/h3>\n

Crystal: <\/b> Weight train and do cardio 3-4 times a week.
\nI hate Yoga. I suck at it! I wanted to like it! I just started trying to meditate.. I can’t! My brain is constantly thinking! It’s really hard for me to do! I love reading US Weekly and In Touch while I’m working out.<\/p>\n

ASIANCE: Have you been in it?<\/h3>\n

Crystal: <\/b> No but I’m sure once I am, I’ll hate it!<\/p>\n

ASIANCE: Do people in the industry ever mention your ethnicity?<\/h3>\n

Crystal: <\/b> Very rarely do people notice my ethnicity. It usually works in my favor and against me. When I was younger it was really difficult for me to get acting jobs because you’re a kid and you don’t fit in the typical family. It was really difficult.
\nWhen I was in Miss Teen Oriental… the judges didn’t think I was Asian.
\nIt’s not just one race anymore. It’s starting to mix in now. I always see this in the United States. In big movies you can see it a lot more. <\/p>\n

ASIANCE: What bit of advice would you give to Asian American girls who want to break into the entertainment industry, especially since it’s still lacking the asian presence? <\/h3>\n

Crystal: <\/b> Know that it’s a difficult battle.. Every actor has a difficulty battle. Never consider yourself below or beneath anything.<\/p>\n
