The makers of the hit movie "Slumdog Millionaire"<\/b> are giving back to the city that served as the backdrop for the story.<\/p>\n
They have donated more than $747,000<\/b> to a charity devoted to improving the lives of street children in Mumbai. The money will be given to Plan<\/b>, an international children’s charity that has been working in India since 1979.<\/p>\n
The aim is to help educate 5,000 slum kids over the next five years.<\/p>\n
A statement from director Danny Boyle<\/b>says it’s only right to give something back where it can do some good.<\/p>\n
"Slumdog Millionaire," a rags-to-riches tale of a slum kid who makes it big, won eight Oscars and has grossed over $200 million worldwide.<\/p>\n
Some have criticized the filmmakers for failing to share the wealth while others have accused them of exploiting 2 of the movie’s child stars, who grew up in wretched conditions. A trust fund has been established for them.<\/p>\n
You can never say Danny does not share the wealth.<\/b><\/p>\n
