Citing "philosophical differences," the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA)<\/strong> and its executive director of six months have parted ways.<\/p>\n

In an announcement, AAJA said the executive director, Ellen Endo, had left the position and that "philosophical differences over AAJA’s vision and direction<\/strong> have led to this mutual decision." Endo was a longtime television industry executive when she came to AAJA in December.<\/p>\n

The association has named Maya Blackmun, who worked at The Oregonian in Portland for more than two decades, as interim executive director<\/strong>. She has been an AAJA member for 22 years, serving in a number of positions, most recently as co-chair of the MediaWatch committee.<\/p>\n

"She is smart, thoughtful and passionate about our mission of diversity in journalism and fair and accurate coverage of the Asian-American community," AAJA National President Sharon Chan said in a statement.<\/p>\n

AAJA<\/strong> said it will search for a new executive director of the summer. Endo’s departure comes three weeks before the group’s annual convention in Boston Aug. 12-15.
