{"id":5091,"date":"2009-12-15T02:12:15","date_gmt":"2009-12-15T02:12:15","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2009-12-15T02:12:03","modified_gmt":"2009-12-15T02:12:03","slug":"Asian-students-back-at-South-Philly-High-School","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asiancemagazine.com\/?p=5091","title":{"rendered":"Asian students back at South Philly High School"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dozens of <strong>Asian-American students <\/strong>who have been boycotting classes at South Philadelphia High School have returned. <\/p>\n<p>About 30 students had stayed away from the school, which is on a &quot;persistently dangerous&quot; list, since December 3rd. They say that <strong>they are the targets of anti-Asian discrimination and violence.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Philadelphia Schools Superintendent Arlene Ackerman<\/strong> met with the Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations about the alleged violence on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The Philadelphia HRC invited school district officials, Asian community representatives and boycotting Asian students.<\/p>\n<p>The attacks reportedly occurred on December 3rd. There are some reports that it was the day after an Asian-American student attacked a disabled African-American student.<\/p>\n<p>However, the boycotting students say long simmering cultural tensions at the school populated by Asian, Latino, white and African-American students have gone unaddressed by the adults charged with educating them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What about the faculty who stood by while the Asian American students were getting beat up? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The school district has suspended six African-American and four Asian-American students and has intentions of expelling them.<\/p>\n<p><em>Source AP<\/em><br \/>\n<br \/>\n<!--break--><br \/>\n<!--Session data--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dozens of Asian-American students who have been boycotting classes at South Philadelphia High School have returned.
