\nEach Fashion Week in New York City, The Academy of Art in San Francisco selects a few students to come to fashion week to show off their talent. We always feature the Asian ones!<\/p>\n
I was intrigued by the cute, spunky Asian girl who was running around backstage but managed to have a cool demeanor. Her name is Jie Pan.<\/p>\n
Jie was born and raised in China. Her collection was inspired by Anna Fidler\u2019s abstract paintings and created to showcase her technical design skills. She paired contrasting shapes and fabrics such as horsehair with silk chiffon, natual linen with organza, and draped stiff shoulders with flowing skirts. Last summer, Jie interned at Anna Sui as a patternmaker and will work as a costume designer for the Hua Yi Performing Group this fall in San Francisco.<\/i><\/p>\n
Jie:<\/b> It\u2019s the best fashion school on the West Coast<\/p>\nASIANCE: Who would you love to dress in China? <\/h3>\n
Jie:<\/b> The woman should be an artist. She likes fashion and has her own taste<\/p>\nASIANCE: What are you planning to do after you receive your MFA in Fashion Design?<\/h3>\n
Jie:<\/b> I want to stay here. Look for a job and get experience. Then go back to China in 2 or 3 years and then open my open fashion line. It\u2019s crazy in China.<\/p>\nASIANCE: What designer do you admire? <\/h3>\n
