Pitcher Park Chan-ho<\/strong> has traded his New York Yankees pinstripes for the black and gold uniform of the Pittsburgh Pirates. <\/p>\n

The Pirates<\/strong> officially announced Park’s acquisition<\/strong> after he had been waived by the Yankees. The new team will be Park’s seventh since his Major League debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1994. He is expected to be added to the Pirates’ 25-man big-league roster.. <\/p>\n

Pittsburgh<\/strong> is hoping Park<\/strong> will add some power to its pitching lineup, which was weakened after Octavio Dotel and Javier Lopez were traded. <\/p>\n

The 37-year-old Korean signed a one-year US$1.2 million deal with the Yankees as a free agent early this year, but he had a disappointing run with the team due to injuries. He was designated for assignment by the Yankees on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Park’s record so far this season is two wins, one loss and a 5.60 ERA in 27 games. He is expected to be a key member of the Pirates’ bullpen.<\/p>\n

The veteran player had 10 days to be snapped up by a new team since being designated for assignment, or face heading to the minor leagues or becoming a free agent. Joining the Pirates means he will remain in the Major League<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

Park <\/strong>is likely to have more chances to play than when he was with the Yankees. This will help his shot at breaking Hideo Nomo’s record of the most wins (123) by an Asian pitcher in the MLB this season<\/strong>.
