The 25th Miss Asian American Pageant<\/strong> was held last night at San Francisco’s Palace of Fine Arts. Contestants came from around the country for an event that was actually much more than a beauty contest. <\/p>\n

There were 22 contestants, ages 17 to 27, from across the country competing in the Miss Asian American Pageant<\/strong> and the winning lady was Sarah Liu<\/strong> was crowned Queen for 2010.<\/p>\n

The pageant was started 25 years ago as a showcase of the culture, intelligence and talent of the women.<\/p>\n

“What we’re looking for is the person who has the potential or desire to become a community leader, a person who is confident, just really a caring and compassionate person,” pageant founder and director Rose Chung said.<\/p>\n

Chung <\/strong>was a former Miss Chinatown when she began the pageant in 1985. This spectacle is about opportunities, growth and inspiration. <\/p>\n

It all culminates in the big night when a new Miss Asian America is crowned. It’s about sense of community more than a beauty pageant. It is about social relevance. <\/p>\n
