Konami Digital Entertainment has teamed up with the Japanese coastal town of Atami to lure men into their virtual reality dating game<\/strong>. Various parts of the resort carry a 2D barcode, that when captured with a smartphone’s camera and combined with augmented reality software, can bring to life a virtual reality dating game called Love Plus<\/strong>.
\nUnlike the typical dating game, Love Plus spokesperson says “players of Love Plus are in a scenario where they are a high school boy who is already dating one of the virtual girls. The goal is to see how good you can be to her and to build a relationship.”<\/p>\n

The concept is that you mix your own real-world reality with the virtual gaming reality into an augmented reality that’s brought to life in the town of Atami.<\/p>\n

Barcodes are scattered across the resort, where traditional rooms can be booked at the hotel complete with futons, and users can scan the barcode to either see their girlfriends in a kimono or take a picture with their girlfriend. The resort town has caught on and shops are also now selling charms and capitalizing on the augmented reality world created by Love Plus.<\/p>\n

According to Discovery, “More than 200 Love Plus fans have stayed at the Ohnoya hotel alone<\/strong>, while well over 2,000 have visited the resort town for the campaign, which kicked off on July 10 and ran until the end of August.”<\/p>\n

Don’t tell us virtual boyfriends and girlfriends are the way of the future? Why not?<\/p>\n
