{"id":6331,"date":"2010-09-13T01:09:49","date_gmt":"2010-09-13T01:09:49","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2025-10-15T00:19:26","modified_gmt":"2025-10-15T00:19:26","slug":"japanese-fashion-lands-a-place-at-f-i-t","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asiancemagazine.com\/?p=6331","title":{"rendered":"Japanese Fashion lands a place at F.I.T."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>F.I.T.<\/strong> will open a new exhibit celebrating <strong>contemporary Japanese fashion<\/strong> reminding us that good fashion is still an art form.<\/p>\n<p>Exhibition curator, <strong>Valerie Steele<\/strong>, has brought in key pieces from modern Japanese designers that have been seminal in shaping fashion. So important was their vision that one can easily draw parallels to the current crop of designers showing at <strong>New York Fashion Week<\/strong>. In the eighties, while Americans were obsessing with body-con silhouettes, the Japanese were draping and cutting over-sized garments that challenged the norms of current day fashion.<\/p>\n<p>Pioneers like <strong>Issey Miyake<\/strong> and <strong>Yohji Yamamoto<\/strong> are among those being showcased alongside contemporary designers like <strong>Chitose Abe<\/strong> and <strong>N.
