{"id":6500,"date":"2010-10-15T21:10:51","date_gmt":"2010-10-15T21:10:51","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2010-10-15T21:10:51","modified_gmt":"2010-10-15T21:10:51","slug":"Chinese-American-Composer-Has-World-Premiere-in-NY","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asiancemagazine.com\/?p=6500","title":{"rendered":"Chinese-American Composer Has World Premiere in NY"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The<strong> American Composer Orchestra<\/strong> kicked off its 2010-2011 season at <strong>Carnegie Hal<\/strong>l with a program entitled <strong>\u201cMystics &#038; Magic\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In the season opener, <strong>Chinese-American composer<\/strong>, <strong>Wang Jie<\/strong>, had the world premiere of her new piece<strong> \u201cFrom the Other Sky\u201d<\/strong> which drew on her Chinese heritage. This multi-media concert opera is based on her own invented myth of how the Chinese zodiac animals lost its 13th member \u2013 the musical lark. It features three opera singers and a full orchestral score. <\/p>\n<p>Wang Jie is one of the most exciting new composers. Her innovative work embraces both her Chinese and American heritage, giving her work a unique sound. Her song cycle, <strong>I DIED FOR BEAUTY<\/strong> opened the<strong> Beijing Modern Music Festival<\/strong> and her piano trio, <strong>SHADOW<\/strong>, was featured by the <strong>New Julliard Ensemble<\/strong> during the <strong>Museum of Modern Art Summergardens <\/strong>series.<br \/>\n<!--break--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The American Composer Orchestra kicked off its 2010-2011 season at Carnegie Hall with a program entitled \u201cMystics &#038; Magic\u201d.
